Global Call for Action Against Poverty
The Global Month of Action begins on 16 September, after the International Monetary Fund and World Bank met in Singapore, and culminates on 17 October, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, in a Global White Band Day.
The Global Call To Action Against Poverty’s policy demands are:
- To keep pressure on governments to eradicate poverty, inequality and achieve the Millennium Development Goals, through:
- Public accountability, just governance and the fulfilment of human rights, including workers’ rights
- Trade justice
- A major increase in the quantity and quality of aid and financing for development
- Debt cancellation
WAGGGS focuses its advocacy work on adolescent health and is aware of the impact poverty has on the health and wellbeing of girls and young women. Poverty causes health problems, contributes to drug abuse and increases the risk of HIV/AIDS infection.
WAGGGS calls to join the fight against poverty to improve the health of girls and young women around the world.
