Young Women's World Forum 2010As part of the centenary celebrations, Girlguiding UK will be hosting the first Young Women’s World Forum (YWWF) in cooperation with WAGGGS, from 19 to 24 October 2010. The forum will be discussing issues that are relevant to young women from across the globe and will focus on the Millennium Development Goals.

Discussions will focus on three of the MDGs which were voted as priorities by members of WAGGGS from across the globe in a poll carried out on this website last year. These three goals are: MDG1 “Erradicate extreme poverty and hunger”, MDG3 “Promote gender equality and empower women” and MDG7 “Ensure environmental sustainability”. Delegates will also make a commitment to undertake a project in their own countries.

Aims of the Forum

  • To engage young women involved in Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting from a variety of countries and backgrounds to create a shared vision for girls and young women and to empower them to effect change in the world
  • To collectively create a declaration outlining the participants’ vision for the world and providing a list of recommendations in order to strengthen WAGGGS’ position in the international arena
  • To enable delegates to develop their skills to facilitate change at all levels, personal or global
  • To generate ideas to influence WAGGGS’ vision 2020

Delegates will take part in high level discussions about how WAGGGS and other key players can achieve the MDGs and help to change the world, and to influence the future vision and direction of WAGGGS. There will also be plenty of opportunities to relax and meet each other informally.

On a lighter note, delegates will enjoy intercultural entertainment, they will participate in the Grand Finale for the UK’s centenary celebrations, and they will enjoy a visit to a nearby cultural site.
