Our Cabaña
On 14 February 2007, almost 200 people gathered at Our Cabaña to unveil a sculpture commemorating the 50th anniversary. The sculpture features five children with joined hands representing the five WAGGGS regions and the five decades of Our Cabaña.
Staff and volunteers who worked at Our Cabaña through the decades also gathered at the World Centre on 26 March to celebrate the special anniversary.
The actual 50th birthday of Our Cabaña is on 24 July, which coincides with one of the eight Girl Friendship sessions during the summer season. Later in the year there will be two adult sessions with a Mexican cultural theme: ‘Festivals and Traditions’ and ‘Taste of Mexico’.

Our Chalet, the first of the four WAGGGS’ World Centres, will host two Open Days aimed at troops and units on 31 July and 1 August. Highlights will include a presentation on the history of Our Chalet, with a display featuring stories and reports from guests and a selection of pictures and souvenirs.
The official 75th anniversary weekend will be on 15 and 16 September. Former staff members and others with links to the Chalet are invited to a reunion on 15 September. The event will include games and activities and will end with a barbeque, camp fire and fireworks. On Sunday there will be more activities and a brunch. Our Chalet, located in the Alpine village of Adelboden, Switzerland, was officially opened in 1932 by the World Chief Guide, Lady Baden-Powell and Helen Storrow.

Our girls are only 9, but we already know that we plan to visit both locations in the years to come. The girls get very excited whenever they realize that all the work and planning they do now will one day take them to these fabulous locations.

Happy Birthday to Our Chalet and Our Cabana! It's great to read on this website the good news and I am very happy to see the importance of the World Centres which provide a fantastic opportunity for girls and young women to learn about the international aspects of Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting. They are also excellent places for leader trainings, for exploring different cultures and for helping to learn about the common goals of guiding worldwide and of the unity in diversity!
And this over so many years! "Old" - years wise perhaps, but still young in the spirit and hearts!
