Woman of Outstanding Achievement

This award is given to women who have made an outstanding contribution to WAGGGS' mission in their chosen professional or volunteer work at a regional level.

It honours women who stand out as models in their professional and volunteer work, who have achieved much in the promotion of women’s rights and to advance the status of women.

The award is presented by each WAGGGS Region once every three years. Recipients for 2004 are:

  • Europe
    April 2004 - Gro Harlem Brundtland, first female Prime Minister
    of Norway and former Chief of the World Health Organisation

  • Asia Pacific
    May 2004 - Dr Estefania Aldaba Lim

  • Africa
    July 2004 - Isabella Winkie Direko, second Woman Premier and
    Premier of the Free State Province, South Africa
