Saturday 12 December

In the morning we had a debrief of the whole week, to see what we achieved and what we want to accomplish in the 2nd week.

After the debrief we said goodbye to Paul, our photographer, since he was leaving on that day. It has been great to have him around, to make sure that every important moment here at COP 15 was captured.

In the afternoon Nanees and Abby had a panel discussion on young voices and climate change. Each one spoke about projects they and their associations are doing to reduce the carbon footprint in their countries.

After the panel they had an interview with a filmmaker from “Centre for Sustainability Leadership.” He wanted interviews from people with projects for the environment from different countries to be casted on their website.

The march

It’s been estimated that between 25,000 and 100,000 people participated in the large demonstration on Saturday afternoon. It is the largest movement on climate change in history.

All this people includes important and strong organizations as 350, Countdown2Copenhagen - time for climate justice, Greenpeace and WAGGGS. We raised our voices louder than ever, on behalf of the 10 million girls and young women we are representing. We sang the song "one voice" trough the way from the center of Copenhagen to the Bella Center, walking proudly with our WAGGGS-banner.

This made me feel proud and hopeful, because it showed that we are not alone. People who recognize the effects of climate change are many, and those who take the roles as leaders and act, are more and more.

Huge NGO-party

After walking the whole road from Christiansborg Slotsplads (Parliament Square) to the Bella Center (a distance equivalent to 5 metro stops) we were full of energy! In the evening, the IYCM (International Youth Climate Movement - formally known as YOUNGO) had organized a huge party for all the youth and non-governmental organizations that were taking part through out the first week at COP15. As we arrived, the queue was very long. It was obvious that everyone wanted to have a little time to rest and recharge their energy for the week that was coming.

The party was extended on two floors of a building and each room had its special atmosphere and music choise. The programme also included a stage act from a performing band. That is how we spent our Saturday evening with dancing and singing. I cannot but include to say, that the youth groups are all a great fun to be with. Also it is a great deal of fun to see the same serious, hard working people during the day transform into the energetic youth enjoying the music in the evening!
